Circle of Harmony members are women who love to sing and perform. They are of all ages, from various walks of life and with varying ranges of musical experience from novice to masterful.
New members quickly feel a wonderful sense of belonging. Aligned with the chorus’ values, the director and chorus members warmly welcome all potential members and endeavour to help them easily integrate into such a large group of women!
Within the supportive atmosphere, they become an integral part of the team. Circle of Harmony believes that each new member is unique and valuable and that with the addition of each new voice, a new chorus takes shape.
Our new member program starts on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Do I need singing experience? Experience singing in a chorus or choir would be great, however our members come from a range of backgrounds - some read music and play instruments while others come to us with the ability to sing in tune and a strong willingness to learn. Our members are committed to regular practice. Our chorus has a place for women who sing in all ranges, from high voices (tenors) to low voices (bass) and those in between (lead and baritone).
Do I have to audition? One of our truly kind music team members will bring you into a private room individually to sing a few musical scales and a simple song like Happy Birthday. We do this to evaluate your current music ability and to best place you in one of ou rfour voice parts. If you are later interested in joining the chorus, a more formal audition will be held.
Can I bring my friend/neighbour/relative/etc.? Yes please! We welcome women of all ages across the GTA west and beyond.
Can I bring my teenage daughter? Yes, responsible and mature teenagers are welcome to take part in our new member process.
Where are you located? We rehearse in southwest Oakville at the QE Park Community and Cultural Centre and our members come from all over the west GTA - Brampton, Burlington, Caledonia, Dundas, Etobicoke, Georgetown, Grimsby, Guelph, Hamilton, Milton, Mississauga, Oakville, Stoney Creek and Waterdown, to name a few.
What if I can't commit to all the weeks because of work/school/ family commitments? We are looking for new members who can commit to our weekly rehearsal schedule. If you have to miss one here and there, that’s fine, but generally you’re expected to attend every week.
I don't know anyone/I'm shy/will I fit in? All newcomers are matched with a chorus buddy, who makes sure that you feel welcome and informed. The women in our chorus are known for being very friendly and welcoming.
Why do you have this program? We run this free new member program as part of our mission to spread the word about four-part harmony singing and to give people a chance to see if they would like to join our chorus. Usually most of the people in the free program fall in love with the a cappella style and our welcoming chorus members, but some don't and that's just fine.
